How To: Bench Press

The bench press is the exercise that everyone thinks of every Monday when they’re going to the gym. In short, it’s a gym classic.

It’s known for helping people develop massive upper body strength, muscle and power, primarily in the chest and shoulders.

The best part? It’s as simple as pressing weight off of your chest. The challenge though is that most people leave a lot on the table in terms of getting the most they can out of the exercise.

The easiest way to maximize your gains on the bench press is to execute masterful technique through these 3 key concepts below:

  1. Create leg drive by rooting the feet into the floor
  2. “Pull” the weight down toward your body during the lowering (descent) phase
  3. “Push” your body away from the weight during the raising (ascent) phase
